Historic Hamburg is one of Pennsylvania's
finest small towns and is a historic community in the middle of
a revitalization. For the past five years the town has restored
the architecture of buildings, reconstructed the streetscape, offered
grants for facade improvements to businesses and residences - and
this is just the beginning. We invite you to spend the day in historic
Hamburg PA shopping, eating at one of our dining establishments,
stopping into town during one of our busy event weekends or to just
walk around in our beautiful town or nearby nature trails and parks.
Check your real estate listings for Hamburg PA. With nearby Cabelas
Hamburg location, beautiful farmland, and short drives to six cities
including Philadelphia, Reading and Allentown, Hamburg PA is a great
place to live and raise a family.
Reading Railroad Museum, Hamburg
PA Opening a Resounding Success

The Grand Opening of the Reading Railroad
Heritage Museum in Hamburg on April 12, 2008 was a resounding success.
Many elected officials joined our president, Duane Engle, in the
ribbon cutting at 10 AM . Over 900 people came to enjoy the exhibits,
demonstrations, activities, and food. It was a day to celebrate
the hard work of the volunteers and the community support that has
made the Museum a reality. The Reading Railroad Heritage Museum
is now open every weekend (Saturdays 10 AM to 5 PM and Sundays noon
to 5 PM). Museum visitors view a video about the history of the
Reading Railroad, look into a recreated 1930's station office, explore
exhibits with the theme, The Reading Railroad Shaped Communities,
enjoy model trains, and see and touch historic locomotives and rail
cars. Group tours for 10 or more persons are also available by appointment
on weekdays. Teacher's guides and curriculum materials for children
are ready for school, scout, and children's groups. Event space
for groups up to 50 persons (standing) or 30 persons (at tables)
can be reserved. Your group will enjoy the ambiance of the colorful
museum and, if you wish, a program about the Reading Railroad. Call
the Museum at 610-562-5513 for more information. Of course, the
Reading Company Technical and Historical Society continues its work
to expand the Museum. The new archives area is being prepared to
receive the RCT&HS extensive collection of documents, maps,
and photographs. Preparation of a Site Design Plan continues with
the leadership of noted local architect, Lee Olsen. The plan will
define locations of museum exhibits, event areas, rail car display,
and more. We hope you will visit soon! Pictures and membership information
are available on our web-site, www.readingrailroad.org

The long awaited hotel renovation
is now 1/2 complete and the results have been incredibly beautiful.
We were given a personal tour of the second floor of the hotel
just before Christmas 2007 and the rooms are top notch. The
hotel has a very warm approach much like a Bed and Breakfast
more than a hotel which is to its credit. There is a very
Victorian feel mixed with period inspired modern conveniences
with some rooms including large jacuzzi tubs. Ten years ago
we saw this structure in it's worst dilapidated state and
after the hard work of the Chris and his workers this building
is going to be, once again, the jewel of this town. Don't
forget to check out their new lunch
menu which begins January 28, 2008. |

Eric and Rebekah Armusik Have Transformed
Their 19th-Century Brick Victorian in Hamburg into the House

Eric and Rebekah Armusik moved into a 19th-century, two-story,
brick Victorian home in Hamburg and managed to bring a 17th-century
baroque artistic sensibility to the rooms. The Armusiks, both
